Is Chip Sealing Worth a Try?

Regularly, your driveway and sidewalk experience a great deal of traffic.

You may have already noticed the cracks on your asphalt pavement, a clear indication of the level of wear your pavements have sustained.

Like most people, if you notice asphalt cracks, your most probable way forward is an asphalt overlay, which is way expensive if you ask any paving contractor.

However, chip sealing is a cost-effective alternative; it’s probably one-fifth the cost of repaving your entire pavement.

It is a preferable option; after all, who can pass on an opportunity to maintain their pavement’s appearance and integrity without spending too much?

Below are other reasons why you should consider chip sealing, but first;

What is chip sealing?

This is the application of asphalt liquid with added small aggregates (chips) to an already existing pavement.

The aim of the application is:

  • To correct defects such as cracks
  • To protect the pavement against water and sun damage
  • To Increase skid resistance of the pavement

Additionally, chip sealing helps improve the appearance of your pavement; it gives an added sheen to your asphalt pavement, making it more attractive.

The added sheen also prevents pavement fading. On top of it all, you won’t have to worry about repaving your driveway for a long time; chip sealing extends the life expectancy of your pavement by about six years.
